CELEBRATIONWORKS is currently involved in creating an international theatre of comedy for Expats living in Baja north. We hope to present our first program for Halloween  (Día de Muertos) in October 2012, a happy holiday!

A note of gratitude: Thanks to the Seaside Center in Encinitas, California, Celebrationworks Theatre had a stellar 2011. Thank you to the writers, performers and loyal audience. We presented  5 staged readings, 2 full productions and hosted the mixed media, Seaside Theatre Cafe.  We'll be back!

 

 

 

 

CELEBRATIONWORKS PRESENTS KICK THE DICKENS OUT OF THE HOLIDAYS, Friday December 23 and Saturday 24, 2011:  KICK THE DICKENS OUT OF THE HOLIDAYS, a comedy alternative to traditional holiday shows. Six award-winning one act comedies to keep you laughing through New Year's.  

PLAYS: OY VEY MARIA by Mark Harvey Levine. Everything was fine at the manger until Mary’s mother arrivedSANTA'S STIMULUS PACKAGE, by Joe Starzyk. Is Santa Claus a good business risk?   RING OF LIGHTS by Esta Fischer. Two women make latkes and share a family secret.  WIDOWS PEAK by Lucy Wang. Having friends over for a dinner party is always fun, unless one brings a dog.   SANTA ON CALL by Joan Anderson and Dorothy Sanders. Jim paid for an experienced date, not  someone old enough to be his grandmother!  NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEBUTANTE by Brett Hursey.  Bernadette may have a slight problem New Year's Eve, getting home past the Zombie telemarketers.

THEATRE ARTISTS: Celebrationworks is a professional level amateur theatre group that does high-quality, original plays written by accomplished playwrights, performed by local actors and offered at a suggested donation of $5-$9.

CELEBRATIONWORKS offers different levels of productions: 

ROUND TABLE: Informal, cold readings with professional level actors around a table,  and may have an invited audience of sponsors or those who are in some way invested in the play. There are no auditions as actors are generally known  or referred. If there is no paying audience actors are not paid.

CONCERT READINGS: Play readings with actors sitting or standing and reading the play often using a music stand. There may be a paying audience. There are usually 8 to 10 hours of rehearsal for a concert reading.

REHEARSED STAGED READINGS: Blocked readings of a play before a public audience. With 10-16 hours of rehearsal, using a minimum of technical elements and two public performances. Actors may not be entirely off book.

BARE BONES PRODUCTIONS: A semi-realized production with minimal set. 24-30 hours of rehearsal including tech. 1-2 weekend run. Actors off book, lights and costumes and features in the media.

Award-winning actress, Lisa Galer, (front left) plays the all too helpful answering service operator, Marie, in SL "Sid" Stebel's seriously, funny comedy "Dial 1 4 Sex Talk," 7pm, Friday, September 23, 2011 at Celebrationworks Seaside Theatre Cafe, 1613 Lake Drive, Encinitas Ca 92024. 

Lisa Galer, an experienced film and radio actress who received a Best Actress award from the 2011 San Diego’s 48 Hour Film Project, "My Robohubby.Next to Lisa is, Mary Friedel a frequent performer at Celebrationworks Seaside Theatre Cafe.  Richard Glanzman (back, l-r) is an accomplished actor returning to theatre after a six year absence. Kerry Powell is a musician, story teller and actor; Fred Gaines Jr, appeared on the TV series, "Gene Simmons Family Jewels." He was part of team "Almost Bold" that won two awards at the 48 Hour Film Festival 2011. 

"Dial 1 for Sex Talk" is double billed with Karen Ford's "Star Map" featuring Tony Matarrese, Haig Koshkarian and Tim Probasco. 

Audience Q&A with Sid Stebel and Karen Ford follows: Sid Stebel is a veteran screenwriter, who worked on "Picnic at Hanging Rock," among other movies, is a six times published novelist and was named writer's guru on the cover of TIME Magazine for his best selling book "Double Your Creative Power."

Doors open 6:30pm . Curtain 7pm. Suggested donation $7.  Refreshments available.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010.  A staged reading of, “Endangered Species”  a new play by  award-winning writer, Tom Baum. When a student takes his teachings seriously, a college professor confronts his worst nightmare, a comic drama about life, love, and animal liberation. Directed by Megan Ralph. Featuring the talents of  Jesse Pearlman as Leon; Stacy Nelms  as  Theona; Jackie Gest  as  Bailey; Lorenzo Sarinana  as  Justin 

Playwright, Tom Baum has been nominated for three Emmy awards, is the author of  4 published novels, a member of the Actors Studio L.A.,Playwrights/Directors Unit, the Ensemble Studio Theatre L.A. playwrights unit and the Writer's Guild of America,West.  He wrote the screenplays for, The Manhattan Project, The Sender,  Carny,  Witness to the Execution, (TV) Journey to the Center of the Earth, (TV) The Haunting of Sarah Hardy.(TV) and more. This is Tom's first time out with Celebrationworks.

January 19, 2010 Staged Reading. "The Favorite Son,"  Witty dialogue and dry humor characterize "The Favorite Son," an absorbing comic- drama about a college student who joins the Army and the shocking discovery of his past when his divorced parents, and gay brother gather to try and convince him not to report for duty.  Written by award-winning writer, Carol Roper. Directed by Deb Flomberg.   Featuring the talents of: Anthony Bianco, Lisa DeCaro, Michael Ingram, Patrick Mann.      Rated R for mature theme. 

PRODUCTION HISTORY; 

2009:  World Premiere: "Shakespeare's Brother," the funniest teen comedy since 1579, told by Will Shakespeare’s younger better-looking brother, Gil.  Directed by Bernie Cardell. Full production.

"Feet of Clay" by award-winning writer, Rebecca Gorman. A talented sculpture is stuck in her creativity. Staged reading directed by Sarah Roshan.

"Relationships" Is that a UFO or are you just happy to see me?  Performed by professional level actors at the Littleton , Colorado Library. An evening of comic one act plays. Staged reading directed by Sarah Roshan.

 2008:  HUMBUG, a comic alternative to holiday shows. 6 one act plays by 5 award-winning writers. Full production. Presented at the Vintage Theatre. Directed by Sarah Roshan.

“Garage Sale” original one act plays by four different playwrights performed by professional level actors at the Littleton library. Staged reading, directed by Kim Fanelli.
