Going to Live Across the Pond

My husband’s company decided to send him across the pond for work. We live on the East Coast and call England across the pond. While we are very excited to move for at least the next few years, we are very nervous because there are a lot of different cultural changes that we are going to have to get used to. We bought a house and found out that we need PAT testing technicans can do before we actually buy our new home. Small appliance testing is required for the type of mortgage that we are trying to use to purchase our home, and everything, including the portable appliances must be in tip top shape for us to get the amount of money we are applying for.

There are many people that have told us to get used to using different words for different things, for example, what we call trash here is called rubbish in the UK and what we call a flashlight here is called a torch over there. I am confident that we will be able to get through doing everything without any sort of problem when it comes to vocabulary I just hope that my kids use proper manners as we will be in a different country and we are going to have to be on our best behavior.

I don’t want to offend anyone with any of the words that we use because I know that different countries have different meanings for things and it would be very unfortunate for us to come off as very uneducated Americans, as we are going to be representing our country, we would really like to do it well. We are very excited about this move and I hope that everything goes according to plan as it is very exciting.
